La Taska Sidreria · C/ Conde Altea, 39 tel: 963 819 444 and Avda. Valladolid, 5 tel: 963 697 700 Asturian cider is usually poured from a height into a glass held low behind the waiter's beck. Here it is served from a little model waiter with a bottle upside down on its back - press a button and it dispenses the cider with just enough air in it. You don't understand? You'll have to visit La Taska to see what I mean. A lively and, at times, noisy Northern Spanish taberna that serves all the traditional dishes from the region, Octopus, cod, sausage and the ubiquitous Cider, of course. ***Editors choice

A LITTLE FURTHER OUT

Ca'Sento · Calle Mendez Nuñez, 17 tel: 96 330 1775 Chef Raul Alexandre, something of a celebrity in Valencia, took this restaurant over from his parents after having trained with the legendary Ferran Adria and transformed it from a great restaurant into a truly great one. He still offers his mother's signature dishes, though they now have his special touch. A recently redesigned interior now means that you read less about the decor, than about the food. Ca'Sento specializes in seafood and market fresh fish. It is still located where it has always been, off the Avenida del Puerto, now a slightly more gentrified area than in the past.
